How long can reputation repair require?
That is unfortunately hard to answer.
In some ways, the query, “How long can reputation fix to take before it’s successful?” Was a little easier to estimate? In my view, Google used to be less sophisticated and more consistent across similar types of search terms.
We also had a bit more qualitative information regarding sites and web pages in the search results, via the Browser PageRank Toolbar, which utilized to provide us with a rough numerical score of the PageRank value of web pages.
Utilizing that PageRank score, and evaluating the critical word relevance of pages appearing at the listings for particular searches was just one way of obtaining a rough numerical calculation of how big sheets were (like different facets to assess relative difficulty, like how many web pages Google shows as applicable for a specific investigation, etc.).
However, Toolbar PageRank was discontinued in 2016, and it had not seen updated score values in individual years. Do not despair! I’ll add some caveats to the findings in the analysis.
Their findings were assessed based on two million significant random word search results, rather than focusing on recently introduced materials which experienced search engine optimization (search engine optimization) programmers and online reputation management (ORM) experts were working on.
An individual would reasonably expect that recently introduced materials which are being especially and optimized might have a better prospect of appearing on page one of search results in a shorter interval than content that is deployed with very little or no direct assistance.
However, even contemplating that caveat, an internet reputation repair project is full of challenges. An individual should usually enhance the rankings of multiple, distinct items/pages to push down one lousy thing from page one. Negative issues are frequently pages or images from websites that have long-term, well-developed clout in search rankings.
The emotional dynamics of unwanted things are hard to replicate and countertops with less scandalous, less controversial, neutral or positive content. Some reputations are also subject to ongoing, repeated attacks of negativity, occasionally infusing them with much more position power.
So, expect it for a while. Figure it will take three weeks just in the luckiest of cases, but more likely six to 18 months.
Time is on your side
Time itself is often on your side with internet reputation repair jobs.
After news posts fall off the front pages of their websites, they immediately lose some of their PageRank worth — the items linked directly in the front page of prominent news sites always receive a significant ranking benefit for a small while, which disappears once they start falling off into the archives of those sites.

This isn’t to say that one may merely ignore lousy stuff and it’ll go away. Allowing something to appear on page one for a period seems to convey a level of “incumbent advantage” since Google collects long-term information on its similar click-through rate for your search keyword over time.
If you can begin displacing it by one position from the search result rankings, visibility and related interactions with the negative item may start a trend of decreasing prominence.
Not everything takes quite a while
In scenarios where few search results are focused explicitly on a title, it could be much easier to displace one or even a couple of negative items. (Likewise, if you haven’t completed proactive online reputation management for yourself and your organization, you are making it simpler for any possible future lousy item to immediately rank. So, don’t avoid beefing your existence if you don’t have a reputation issue — or you leave yourself open to an attack.)
